YANNIS LOBAINA

Welcome, September!
Hello everyone, I hope you had an amazing summer! Mine has been very busy, but I’m grateful for all the opportunities that have unfolded this year so far. As we transition into the wonderful month of September and prepare for my favourite season, Autumn, I want to share some highlights from these past two months!

Between July and August 2024, I curated the first group exhibition through my collective, AlbArt Collective, featuring five talented multidisciplinary artists. The exhibition, titled “Shinrin Yoku: The Healing Art of Forest Bathing,” was held at the Etobicoke Civic Centre Art Gallery from July 10th to August 15th. We had a very intimate and beautiful reception on July 13th from 2 pm to 4 pm. The featured artists were Nathan Cole, Carole Milon, Nami Ueno, Kim Foster Yardley, Noël Yardley, and Yannis Lobaina (your true and lovely me).
In August, I had the privilege of having a solo photography exhibition of my ongoing series, Catch and Release, at the Branch Art Exhibit in the North York Central Library from August 2nd to August 30th. It was an amazing opportunity to exhibit again at the Toronto Public Libraries, one of my favourite places in Toronto. I am truly grateful for this amazing opportunity.
Now, after all this, I’m getting ready to offer two more public events in September and October. Fortunately, both events I posted about have been fully booked up! I am so grateful for this. You can read more and stay tuned for my next adventures before the year ends!

I hope you have exciting news amid the chaos of this planet. Let’s celebrate each other. Let me know what you do or what you’re planning next. Thank you so much for joining me on this creative adventure; I’m delighted to be here with you. If there’s anything else you’d like to ask me, invitations, panels, group exhibitions, resource sharing, don’t hesitate to write to me and let me know! Some of my landscape photograph series are available for sale in unique, regular and custom sizes, such as archival prints, metal prints, and mixed media.

Branch Art Exhibit: Catch and Release by Yannis Lobaina

Ongoing event running from Fri Aug 02, 2024 – Fri Aug 30, 2024

Location

North York Central Library

Throughout August, the works of Yannis Lobaina are on display at North York Central Library in an exhibit titled “Catch and Release by Yannis Lobaina”. Yannis Lobaina is a Cuban artist, author, filmmaker, photographer and community arts facilitator based in Toronto. Yannis explores themes of immigration, diaspora, and motherhood through various narrative tools, and as a photographer, focuses on minimalist storytelling photography, landscapes, patterns, sacred geometry, and pareidolias in Mother Nature.”

“I am an artist who creates minimalist photographic narratives called Catch and Release. Through my lens, I capture fleeting, frugal moments and the sacred geometry of Mother Nature, turning them into beautiful and timeless visual poetry. My photography explores patterns, pareidolia, spirals, textures, and the spiritual significance of these magical encounters with nature. Walking with my camera is a daily and conscious form of meditation for me. I have several photographic series around this theme, all focused on slowing down, observing, being patient, enjoying the present moment, and listening to Mother Nature. She is our home for healing and cure.”

This exhibit is part of TPL’s Art Exhibit Space program. Toronto Public Library provides space for local artists to exhibit their work at locations across the city. These exhibits aim to reflect the diverse cultural interests of the city and its neighbourhoods.

The exhibit can be viewed during Branch open hours. Please check the North York Central Library branch page before your visit.

Free. All are welcome.
